Buenas Grated Coconut by Manning Impex Ltd is being recalled as it may contain the bacteria salmonella, putting the public at risk of salmonellosis.

Usual symptoms of salmonellosis include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. If it enters the bloodstream, it can become life-threatening.

Salmonella can be found in the guts of animals and humans, and thus can be in foods such as raw meat and poultry, unpasteurised dairy products and eggs. It is therefore unusual to find it in this amaranth, which may have gotten there due to cross contamination, but no information has been given on this.
