Food Safety Recall: Rolkem Sugar Craft Food Colours
Food Safety Recall: Rolkem Sugarcraft Food Colours
Fabricake Sugarcraft Limited
Fabricake Sugarcraft Limited is recalling both their Rolkem Special Rose Gold and Rolkem Super Gold. These are food colours used to decorate food items such as cakes. They are recalled due to high concentration of copper.
Copper is an essential trace element that is vital to the health of life - humans, animals, plants, even micro-organisms. Copper is essential to the proper functioning of organs and metabolic processes.
However, as with most trace elements, we need a certain amount (the recommended daily intake is 1.3mg), but not too much more - or it can become toxic. Copper toxicity is also called copperiedus, and can lead to stomach upset, nausea, and diarrhea and tissue injury and disease. Long term excess of copper can lead to longer term, more serious, health problems - though that is not as likely to occur with just this one batch of food colouring.
