Proteinella Smooth Hazelnut and Cocoa Spread

Lidl's is recalling their HealthyCo Proteinella Smooth Hazelnut and Cocoa Spread, because the ingredients, and thus the allergens, are not declared in English, causing a potential health hazard to those with an allergy or intolerance to nuts, milk or lactose.

Nuts and Anaphylaxis

Hazelnuts and almonds are nuts (tree nuts), and nuts are one of the 14 allergens that must be clearly highlighted on all the labels.

This Proteinella Spread could put a person who is allergic to nuts (or dairy), in a deadly situation. Their lips can swell, their throat swell shut, while inside their lungs, their bronchii will start swelling as well, and the person won't be able to breathe. This process is called anaphylaxis, or anaphylactic shock, and if medical attention in the form of an adrenaline auto-injector is not given within minutes, the person can die.

Though most people who are allergic or intolerant to tree nuts would know to avoid this Spread, if someone else where to prepare food for them to eat that contains this spread, the person could still go into anaphylactic shock.

So you see how important it is for this Proteinella Spread to be recalled!
