Allergen Recall: Lidl’s Sondey Jaffa Cakes
Allergen Recall: Lidl's Sondey Jaffa Cakes
Lidl's Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes
Lidl is recalling their Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes and Mini Jaffa Cakes because they contain the allergen milk, which is not mentioned in the ingredients list. This could cause a health risk to those with an allergy or intolerance to milk or lactose.
Some people's immune system overreacts to certain proteins in the milk, which results in an allergy to milk, dairy and other milk-derivatives. This allergic response tends to happen very rapidly - although the exact time can depend on what other foods were consumed at the same time and how long their digestion takes. According to Wikipedia, a milk allergy causes anaphylaxis in about 1-2 % of cases.
There are also people who suffer from lactose intolerance, caused by an inability to digest lactose, which is found in milk and other milk products. The symptoms often include abdominal pain, bloating and gas, diarrhea and nausea. These tend to start within an hour or two after the person drinks milk or eats milk products.
