Morrisons Free From Choc Chip Cookies

Morrisons is recalling their Free From Choc Chip Cookes, because they contain the allergen milk, which is not declared on the label.

These cookies are only said to be gluten-free, not dairy free, but people who have to be gluten free and also have an allergy or intolerance to milk, would consider these safe to eat - when they are not, and could cause them serious harm.

Milk Allergen

Some people's immune system overreacts to certain proteins in the milk, which results in an allergy to milk, dairy and other milk-derivatives. This allergic response tends to happen very rapidly - although the exact time can depend on what other foods were consumed at the same time and how long their digestion takes. According to Wikipedia, a milk allergy causes anaphylaxis in about 1-2 % of cases.

Lactose Intolerance

There are also people who suffer from lactose intolerance, caused by an inability to digest lactose, which is found in milk and other milk products. The symptoms often include abdominal pain, bloating and gas, diarrhea and nausea. These tend to start within an hour or two after the person drinks milk or eats milk products.
