How many people in the UK have asthma?

According to Asthma UK, there are 5.4 million people living with asthma – 1.1 million children and 4.3 million adults. That is one out of every 11 people and three children in each classroom.

It is a very serious condition – every ten seconds, someone is having a potentially life-threatening asthma attack in the UK alone. How many since you started reading this article? Every day, 3 people actually die from asthma…
Every 8 minutes, someone is hospitalised because of it (185 people per day) – every 20 minutes it is a child.
Would you know what to do if someone had an asthma attack? Could you help them? 2 out of those 3 deaths per day are avoidable …

Supporting Children’s Health does a FREE online Asthma Module, giving awareness of the condition, how to manage it and looking at plans to help support children with asthma.

Asthma UK has resources like action plans for adults and children, leaflets and booklets you might find useful.

If you are working in a school, Medical Conditions at School provide health care plans for asthma and other conditions.

Monkey Wellbeing does a poster (PDF) aimed at children.
